Spring 2007

In January 2007 we had a period of extreme cold temperature, with overnight lows below freezing for several nights in a row.  This had a big impact on our garden and we lost several plants that were not frost-tolerant, including pygmy date palms, desert bird of paradise, lantana, and Australian tree ferns.  Our orange tree lost all of its leaves but has since grown a new set of leaves.  The orange fruit (all four of them!) were not affected.  We also made some changes along the wall on the south side of the yard: we removed the yuletide camellias which were not growing well and planted a weeping Japanese maple, a bay laurel tree, and several blooming perennials.
